LEGAL NOTICE

The Board of County Commissioners of the Portage County Solid Waste Management District shall hold Four (4) Public Hearings on the proposed rates and charges of the Portage County Solid Waste Management District’s Recycling Program including but not limited to rates and charges for solid waste collection, storage, transfer, disposal, recycling, processing, or resource recovery services.

The following annual rates and charges shall be considered at these four (4) public hearings, proposed to be applied, per unit, to all residential lots or parcels; improved, or in the process of being improved; with at least one permanent, portable, or temporary building, within the Portage County Solid Waste Management District:

Weekly Curbside service availability: $68.04 Every other week service availability:$36.00 Drop off container availability: $15.00

Multi-unit residential parcels will receive a multiple of this rate and the number of units on the parcel.

The Portage County Solid Waste Management District will honor current community agreements and upon expiration of those agreements will move communities onto the proposed rate stabilization plan if adopted.

Weekly Curbside Service: City of Aurora, City of Kent, Hiram Township and Village of Hiram, City of Streetsboro, Village of Sugarbush.

Bi-Weekly Curbside Service: Atwater Township, Brimfield Township, Franklin Township, Mantua Township, Ravenna Township, City of Ravenna, Rootstown Township, Shalersville Township, Suffield Township.

Village of Garrettsville, Nelson Township, Paris Township, Palmyra Township, Randolph Township, Windham Township and Village of Windham.

Regarding drop off container service, the Board may consider whether the rates and charges may be applied to all lots or parcels that are improved, or in the process of being improved with at least one permanent, portable, or temporary building.

The above are proposed rates and charges, and a purpose of the public hearings will be for the Board to consider whether such rates and charges, or some other variation of rates and charges, should be adopted. The Board welcomes community comment and feedback regarding the proposed rates and charges and hopes the people of Portage County and the communities in Portage County engage with comments and feedback to the Board.

These charges, in their entirety, shall be certified to the County Auditor in 2020, who shall place them onto the real property tax duplicate of each of the parcels identified, and shall be collected in the same manner as other taxes.

The Board of County Commissioners of the Portage County Solid Waste Management District is proceeding under R.C. Chapter 343, including without limitation, R.C. 343.08, a portion of which further provides that rates or charges may be changed when such is considered advisable.

Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at 7:00 PM at Brimfield Elementary School, 4170 State Route 43, Kent, Ohio

Thursday, April 2, 2020 at 8:30 AM at the Portage County Administration Building,
7th Floor, Board of Commissioners’ meeting room, 449 South Meridian Street, Ravenna, Ohio

Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at 7:00 PM at the Southeast High School, 8423 Tallmadge Road, Ravenna, Ohio

Thursday, April 9, 2020 at 8:30 AM at the Portage County Administration Building,
7th Floor, Board of Commissioners’ meeting room, 449 South Meridian Street, Ravenna, Ohio

At the public hearings, the Board shall hear any person who wishes to testify on the proposed rates and charges.
