Make a Difference
The Portage Area Food Shelf located on the campus of St. Joseph Parish contacted St. Joseph School about being in need of a number of key items. The request was given to the 6th grade leadership team. The team came up with a collection plan, incentives for students, and organized the entire campaign. The 6th grade team also setup two goals. The first goal was a 1,200 can mark and the second mark was at 1,500 cans. For reaching the goals, students were able to earn an extra recess and an additional dress down day. The students collected well over 2,000 items in just over one week. Mr. Holzapfel, school principal, states that this is the greatest number of items he has ever seen collected from a school in his eight years as a principal. The school may be small, but its generosity and dedication to serving others is great!
Gary Harrison, one of the directors of the Food Shelf, thanked the students and told them this was the largest collection the school has donated at one time. The Food Shelf serves residents in Atwater, Randolph, and Suffield. If you are in need of services from the Food Shelf, please dial 211 and follow the prompts.
Donations can be made by monetary donations made payable to the RSA Food Shelf and mailed to St. Jospeh Parish, C/O RSA Food Shelf, 2697 Waterloo Rd. Mogadore, Ohio 44260. If you would like to donate other non-perishable items, please call the rectory at 330-628-9941 and they will direct your call.
